WHAT IN THE WORLD?

Kathy Moran, oceanographer and fellow oceanographer, she, a professor at the University of Rhode Island, reported on “Science Friday” at NPR 6-2-06 that drilling in the Artic Ocean has produced sediment from “sixty-five million years ago” that reveals that the ocean there and environment was then “as warm and balmy as San Francisco.”

Of course no geologist of renown, or probably oceanographers, for that matter, take seriously the idea that a worldwide flood obliterated a world which, up to that time, had been semi-tropical in climate.

On the other hand, those committed to explaining much of the evidence left to us today as having been a part of the residue of Noah’s Flood. state that the great age assigned to much of the material is based upon biological evolution which never occurred.

Certainly this latest “find”, that is so puzzling to these oceanographers, is perfectly consistent with a Biblical view of geology.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

On June 22nd the BBC in London carried a story about the sexual abuse of women in Africa, specifically the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia.

In the former nation (Congo), a rape takes place every twenty minutes around the clock. In Liberia the story is much the same.

Often babies born to such violently criminal unions as well as their mothers are shunned by their tribal relatives. Now the practice of perpetrating rape upon babies and toddlers is taking place.

The British newscaster asked the reporter, “Why do you think people do that?”

For the answer read again Romans 1:28-32! (NIV)

28. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.

29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,

30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

Today I was in a business place pricing light firearms. I was actually waiting for a prescription to come up and was just window shopping, basically.

As I was kneeling looking at the pellet rifles a couple came around the corner of the shelves where these and the pellet handguns were on display.

The woman was a younger person (note that I am not saying “lady”). In the first moments they were there she let go with a bad profane word followed immediately by the worst of the four-letter words. She studied over the various pellet and plastic-ball shooting handguns.

Turning to the man she remarked, “I’m trying to find something I can shoot the kids with that won’t hurt them too bad.” Mercifully, I think she walked away without a purchase.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

This week one of our missionary letters implored its readers to agree to spend “ten minutes a day, six days a week” in prayer for its summer projects this year. Our Savior rebuked His disciples the night of His betrayal, “Could you not watch with me one brief hour?

Years ago, when prayer meetings in the middle of the week were stronger, it was thought only one percent of Christians came to pray at those meetings.

One shudders at the thought of how low the percentage must be these days owing to the fact that so few bother to even try to be present. Yes, our Savior’s words still echo down the corridors of time: “Could you not watch with me one brief hour?”

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

A Florida court is trying a case against an “unlicensed midwife” who assisted in a chidbirth there. The mother died a few days after.

An announcement, in defending the court action, said: “The government has an obligation to defend people against themselves sometimes.”

Think of the hypocrisy here. Since abortion on demand became legal in this country the number of babies so slaughtered now equals the population of the entire center third of our nation! Where is the government in “protecting” these mothers against their own selfish notions to slay their unborn babies rather than allow them to be born to life.

Hear God’s changeless command: “Thou Shalt not kill.” (Exodus 20:11)

How ironic that his middle name was “Riddle.” I refer to James Hoffa, long-time labor boss in America, no stranger to jail and shady politics or other convicted felons. He disappeared over thirty-one years ago.

Because a convict thinks he knows where Jimmy’s remains are, a small army of FBI agents, archaeologists and anthropologists are hard at work spending your tax dollars digging up the yards and fields of a farm frequented in the past with mob cronies, “friends” of Hoffa.

Nobody is saying what they intend to do with the body if it is found nor how such an exercise will better our terribly debt-ridden nation. The only thing I am sure of at this point is that, body or no body, Jimmy must go to God’s judgment, the same as the rest of us.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

National Public Radio (NPR) just Wednesday discussed with “a science expert” that there is a problem regarding the age of the earth and the evidence of man on the earth.

It seems that “though the earth is five billion years old, the evidence for life is only about three and a half billion years.” So, “as science pursues the answer to the question “How did the earth originate’, there is a contradiction.”

There sure is. First of all, there is no “scientific evidence” that the earth is five billion years old nor that man has been on the earth a million or more years.

Geologists have established a table of “geologic ages.” Fossils found in the various strata that supposedly represent these ages are then used to date the rocks. Then, going elsewhere, similar strata are assigned age based on their fossil content. No one, apparently, realizes this circular reasoning by which to “prove” great age.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?
This week a jury of twelve in Toledo, Ohio convicted an elderly Catholic priest, Gerald Robinson, of murdering a nun with whom he worked some twenty-six years ago.

To the end Father Robinson maintained his innocence but did not take the witness stand in his own defense. A letter opener in his desk drawer was proven to be the murder weapon.

One Roman catholic person cried out at the verdict, “How could he minister in the church all these years with murder on his conscience?”

This is an important point. All Catholic priests are entitled to “celebrate Mass.” This means, according to Romish doctrine, that they perform the miracle of turning the bread and wine of the sacrament of Communion “into the body and blood of Christ” (literally). Would Christ sanction a murderer’s performance of such a miracle?

More erroneous bologna from the moral bankruptcy that passes for true Christianity!

Dr. Ralph Colas of our own American Council of Christian Churches reported that the Simi Valley United Church of Christ in California has featured an atheist as a Sunday School teacher!

The purpose for the visiting atheist teacher was to “fulfill our goal of respecting and learning from traditions which differ from our own.”

The United Church of Christ has been a member of the National Council of Churches since it was organized in 1950.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

This week the news media identified the number of our soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors “wounded” by fighting in Iraq as about 17,300 to date. This is in addition to the nearly 3,000 killed!

A modern Army infantry division, at full strength has about 18,000 men. The casualties in total, then, number more than a complete infantry division. All this to bring “freedom” to Iraq so tenuous as to make necessary the protection of Iraq’s new leaders in a fortress (“The Green Zone”) twenty-four seven!
